2020 Cadillac CT5
Luxury / Premium Luxury / Sport / V (1st gen, 2020–present)
Low Risk

The CT5 replaces both the ATS and CTS — well-sorted rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan with available AWD. The 3.0L twin-turbo V6 is the sweet spot, and the 2020 CT5-V pairs that engine (360 hp) with a sport tune. Main checks: a 2.0T (LSY) oil-level check and magnetic ride suspension health. The supercharged 6.2L V8 CT5-V Blackwing (668 hp) is a 2022-and-later car — not available for 2020.

Powertrain

Monitor
The CT5's 2.0T is GM's newer LSY (not the older Blazer LTG); a routine turbo-four oil-level and consumption check between changes is still prudent.
Check dipstick level immediately. Ask how often oil is added between changes.
Est. cost: $0–$2,500 Source: GM LSY 2.0T
Low Risk
Twin-turbo V6 is smooth and powerful. The recommended CT5 engine.
Test boost delivery. Both turbos smooth.
Est. cost: Routine maintenance Source: Cadillac LGY reliability

Magnetic Ride Suspension

Monitor
MRC shocks fail at 60k–80k miles. Replacement is $600–$1,200 per corner.
Test all four corners over speed bumps. Any corner sag or harsh thump = shock failing.
Est. cost: $600–$1,200 per corner shock Source: Cadillac MRC pattern

Cadillac services run $600–$1,200 per interval.
Request all records. Verify Cadillac CPO coverage if available.

What the VIN tells you

8th VIN digit = engine code: 'K' = 2.0L LSY turbo I4 (237 hp, the base engine); 'W' = 3.0L LGY twin-turbo V6 (335 hp in Luxury/Premium Luxury/Sport, 360 hp in the CT5-V). Note the base four is GM's newer LSY, not the older LTG found in the Blazer. The supercharged 6.2L V8 CT5-V Blackwing (668 hp) is a MY2022-and-later car — a genuine 2020 will never decode to it, so treat any 2020 'Blackwing' listing as mislabeled. Confirm the engine and drivetrain (RWD vs. AWD) with a full VIN decode at autovetting.com/decode before applying this checklist.
