The LGX is a well-proven engine found in many GM vehicles. Timing chain is robust with regular oil changes. Watch for valve cover gasket seeps on higher-mileage units.
Check valve cover area for oil seeps. Cold-start idle should be smooth and quiet.

The Cadillac User Experience (CUE) system on 2017–2018 models uses a capacitive touchscreen that can delaminate or become unresponsive. This is a known defect Cadillac addressed under extended warranty on some VINs.
Test all touchscreen areas including corners. Any dead zones or sticky feel = replacement needed.

Front brake caliper piston seal torn or misaligned — brake fluid leak
2017 XT5 and 2017 GMC Acadia, 1,844 units. A torn or misaligned front brake caliper piston seal can let brake fluid leak past it and reduce braking performance. Dealers inspect the front calipers and replace the assemblies as needed at no charge; GM calls this recall 16096 and it began 2016-12-12. 1,844 units is a very narrow population for a model year, so the model year tells you almost nothing here — only the VIN does. Because the campaign is nearly ten years old, what you are checking is whether the completion was recorded, not whether the car is new enough to have escaped it.
8th VIN digit engine code: 'S' = 3.6L LGX V6 (RPO LGX, ~310 hp, 8-speed automatic) — the only engine offered in the 2017 XT5, so the 8th digit simply confirms the LGX rather than selecting between engines. Do not confuse the XT5's LGX with the older SRX it replaced, which used the LF1/LFX 3.6L; a genuine XT5 VIN decodes to the LGX (8th digit S). The LGX runs Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation), so AFM lifter longevity and the timing chain both depend on clean oil — verify oil-change history. Run the full VIN at nhtsa.gov to confirm any open campaigns are closed before purchase.
