Low Risk

The Palisade is Hyundai’s most well-rounded 3-row SUV — spacious, premium-feeling, and powered by a proven 3.8L V6. First-year (2020) models had some HVAC complaints and a minor engine stall recall, both addressed by dealer. No chronic powertrain failures. An excellent used family SUV at a significant discount to the new price.

Recall

High Risk — Check 2020 VIN

What the VIN tells you

Every 2020 Palisade uses one engine — the 3.8L Lambda II GDI V6 (291 hp), 8th VIN digit 'E', paired with an 8-speed automatic in front- or all-wheel drive. There is no 4-cylinder and no Theta II engine in the Palisade, so it is not subject to the Theta II engine-fire recalls that affect Hyundai's smaller models — a common point of buyer confusion. The Calligraphy trim was added for 2021, so a 2020 tops out at Limited. Decode the 10th VIN digit for model year ('L' = 2020) and run the full VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before purchase.
