Low Risk

The EV6 is one of the best EVs in the segment — 800V architecture enables ultra-fast 350 kW charging (10–80% in under 18 minutes), exceptional driving dynamics, and a spacious interior on the E-GMP platform shared with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. No widespread battery or drivetrain failures on used examples. Main buyer checks: software version (OTA updates are frequent), confirm 400V vs 800V charging compatibility, and battery state of health. On recalls, NHTSA lists four campaigns for MY2022. Two matter: the ICCU 12-volt charging failure that can cause a loss of drive power, which ran twice (24V-200, then 24V-867 expanding and replacing it, so a car fixed under the first still needs the second), and 26V-431, a high-voltage-battery fire campaign with a park-outside instruction whose population is only 8 cars — negligible odds, but a VIN check is the only way to rule it out.

Battery & Charging

Monitor
Request a battery health check at a Kia dealer — the 77.4 kWh Long Range battery should show >90% SoH on low-mileage examples. Degradation is typically slow on E-GMP.
Check displayed range at 100% charge vs rated range. Any >15% deficit on a sub-50k example = investigate.

Low Risk
EV6 supports 800V charging natively. The included ICCU also allows 400V charging via voltage conversion. Both work without issue.
Test CCS Combo charging port condition — no corrosion or damaged pins.

Software & Infotainment

Low Risk
EV6 receives frequent OTA updates that fix range estimates, charging curves, and infotainment bugs. Confirm vehicle is on latest software.
Check Software Version in Settings. Ask if all OTA updates have been accepted.

Recall

High Risk — Check VIN
Some 2022 EV6 models were recalled for a high-voltage battery charging relay that could overheat.
Run VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Confirm closed.

Documentation

Monitor
Heavy reliance on DC fast charging (daily) can accelerate battery degradation slightly. Ask about typical charging behavior.
Ask if owner primarily used Level 2 home charging or frequent DCFC. Heavy DCFC use = check SoH more carefully.

NHTSA Recalls (verify completion via VIN)

26V-431
Severity: Critical — fire, park outside
High-voltage battery cells may have misaligned electrodes, which can short and cause a fire while parked or driving. The population is 8 vehicles across the 2022-2024 EV6 and 2024 EV9 — narrow enough that only a VIN check can answer it — Kia SC375, report received 2026-07-02. Until repaired Kia says park outside away from structures and limit charging to 80 percent. Remedy: high-voltage battery system assembly replaced free.
24V-867
Severity: Critical — loss of drive power
The Integrated Charging Control Unit can be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, causing a loss of drive power while driving. 62,872 units, Kia SC327, report received 2024-11-18. This expands and replaces 24V-200, so a car already repaired under that campaign still needs this remedy. Remedy: ICCU and its fuse inspected and replaced as needed plus a software update, free.
24V-200
Severity: Superseded by 24V-867
The first form of the same ICCU 12-volt charging failure — 48,232 units, Kia SC302, report received 2024-03-14. Confirm the car carries the later SC327 remedy and not only this one. Remedy: ICCU and fuse inspected and replaced as needed plus a software update, free.
22V-322
Severity: High — rollaway
A Shifter Control Unit software error can disengage the parking mechanism and let the vehicle roll away. 9,014 units, Kia SC236, report received 2022-05-11. Remedy: Shifter Control Unit software updated at no cost.

What the VIN tells you

The 2022 EV6 is electric, so the 8th VIN digit encodes battery and motor rather than a combustion engine — and the difference is worth real money. 8th digit ‘B’ = 58 kWh battery, single rear motor, 167 hp (the Standard-Range RWD ‘Light’ trim) — shortest range (~232 mi EPA) and the one to skip if you road-trip. 8th digit ‘A’ = 77.4 kWh battery, single rear motor, 225 hp (Long-Range RWD Wind/GT-Line) — the sweet spot at ~310 mi. 8th digit ‘C’ = 77.4 kWh battery, dual-motor AWD, 320 hp (~274 mi). All three share the same 800V E-GMP architecture and 350 kW fast-charging. Confirm battery state-of-health at a Kia dealer (free) — Long-Range cars should read >90% SoH on low-mileage examples — and verify the ICCU/charging-relay recall (select 2022) is closed.
