For 2020 the CX-30 came with a single engine: the 2.5L SkyActiv-G I4 (186 hp), 8th VIN digit 'L' (naturally aspirated, no cylinder deactivation). There is no turbo for 2020 — the 227-hp 2.5 Turbo did not arrive until the 2021 model year, and cylinder-deactivation builds (8th digit 'M') came later still. Every 2020 pairs the 2.5L with Mazda's 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic, not a CVT. If a listing calls a 2020 CX-30 a 'Turbo,' decode the VIN — a genuine 2020 reads 'L' in the 8th position. Always run the full VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm any open campaign is closed before purchase.
