The 3rd-gen Insight (ZE4) shipped a single powertrain — Honda's two-motor 1.5L Atkinson i-MMD hybrid (151 hp combined) with an eCVT — on every LX, EX, and Touring, so there is no engine choice to decode. On Honda VINs the 8th character encodes grade and restraint system rather than an engine family, and since the mechanicals are identical across trims it won't distinguish them here. What actually varies is trim level (Touring adds the larger infotainment and leather) and whether Honda Sensing was recalibrated after any windshield or front-end work. Verify hybrid battery (IPU) health with no warning lights, and run the full VIN at nhtsa.gov to confirm there are no open campaigns.
