2024 Toyota Camry
LE / SE / XLE / XSE / XLE V6 / XSE V6 / TRD (XV70, 8th gen, 2018-2024; final model year)
Low Risk

2024 is the final model year of the 8th-generation Camry (XV70) and the last chance to buy a V6 Camry before the 2025 redesign goes hybrid-only. Three powertrains were offered: the 2.5L A25A-FKS four-cylinder, the 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6 (XLE V6, XSE V6, TRD), and the 2.5L hybrid. All three are mature, well-proven Toyota powertrains with no chronic failure modes at this age — the V6 in particular is among Toyota's most durable engines. A late-production example of a fully sorted generation, so risk is low; verify which engine you are buying via the 8th VIN digit before applying this checklist.

What the VIN tells you

The 2024 Camry is the final year of the 8th-gen XV70 — not the hybrid-only XV80 redesign, which arrives for 2025. That means 2024 still offers three powertrains, and the 8th VIN digit is the decode that matters. Position 8 = A is the 2.5L A25A-FKS four-cylinder (202–206 hp); position 8 = 6 is the 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6 (301 hp, fitted only to XLE V6, XSE V6 and TRD). The 2.5L hybrid (A25A-FXS, 208 hp combined) encodes its powertrain separately — confirm the hybrid badge matches what the NHTSA vPIC decode returns at vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov, since a mismatch can indicate a trim-badge swap. The V6 is one of Toyota's most proven engines and the last year you can buy one in a Camry; the gas and hybrid 2.5L share the A25A block. Position 10 encodes model year: R = 2024.
